I like to think of Mutiny as the Justine Timberlake of the Breaks scene. In fact I think a collaboration between the Trouser Snake and Carlos Mutiny would make for a seriously sexy little number. Mutiny doesn’t fail to deliver his trademark soulful take on things. ‘Fred’s Message’ is low riding and solid. It’s the type of track your ‘cool’ parents can get on down to and you can join in with them and say, ‘see, breaks doesn’t sound like walking into a room full of hoovers and mentalists on drums’. Indeed, no screeching rave core here, just sophisticated soulfully soaked vocal samples and funky guitar licks complete with Black Panther samples (this sounds better than it reads). Next up come The Breakfastaz’s remix of ‘Most’. Apparently the original of this was one of Mutiny’s more ethereal and fragile moments. Well it ain’t no more. This is now a peak time, stadium rock, breaks peak time monster complete with trance riffs and vocals care of Miss Trouble.
