Mercury Rev have been a pioneering band since their inception in the late 80’s. Their seminal ‘Deserter’s Songs’ gained critical acclaim world over and now they’ve taken the Back to Mine challenge. This 24th edition sees the series return to its laid back roots as Mercury Rev deliver a hypnotic soundtrack that clearly identifies the influences that helped them to forge their own sound. David Bowie’s instrumental ‘A New Career In A New Town’ kicks things off before the likes of Galaxy 500, Billie Holiday and Terry Jacks grace the mix, the latter being the melancholic ‘Seasons In The Sun’. There’s also an exclusive Mercury Rev track ‘Cecilia’s Lunar Expose’ which is a melodic ambient piece dedicated to the Swedish Space Program. No Back to Mine is complete without a show stopper and in this case it’s ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ by Cliff Edwards but more commonly recognized as Jiminy Crickets theme in the Disney movies. Step into the world of Mercury Rev… for an hour or so at least.
