The music scene for Blockhead is a thriving one, as on his third album he broadens his horizons. This is a pretty big stylistic jump forward, retaining his previous skills in instrumental hip hop but throwing caution to the winds as he looks to incorporate other styles of music. Opener ‘It’s Raining Clouds’ manages somehow to end up in drum and bass without sounding cliched, while ‘Attack The Doctor’ is a mini masterpiece, starting off with carefully plucked guitar but ending up in all manner of choral weirdness. Throughout the New Yorker manages his resources cleverly, so that the resulting collage of sounds, melodies and chewed up beats is never less than interesting.
