Damian Lazarus
Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi Volume Two
Soma

Any regular listener to Damian’s monthly Lazpods will know by now that the man’s musical taste is totally unfettered by genres but driven by unrelenting passion for music. Neither does Soma’s Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi series – which, after all, did kick off with Weatherall around a year ago – so this can only be a marriage made in heaven. It doesn’t disappoint, respectfully starting with Weatherall’s mix of Innersphere’s ‘Out Of Body’ then burial’s haunted ‘Etched Headplate’ before traversing a diverse selection including the boogie of Q’s ‘The Voice Of Q’, Hercules & Love Affair, MAW, Unique 3, Adam Marshall, Pulp and the deep house-electro mutant of Javier Segura’s ‘Conersacion’, Damian finally winning his colours by closing with the dub of S.O.S. Band’s ‘Just the Way You Like It’ when many would have gone with ‘Just Be Good To Me’. This sublime set opens the door a bit wider to a musical world without fences while providing a jolly good joyride in the process.
