Dimitri From Paris
Return To The Playboy Mansion
Defected

Another set of flashily-packaged disco cavorting from Dimitri. Or is it? The first disc, Partytime, presents a pumping selection of uptempo rump-shakers, known and obscure, from names like Gary’s Gang, Musique, Jimmy ‘Bo’ Horne, Young & Company, Teddy Pendergrass and even Jamiroquai [not a good start]. All well and good in the tradition of the first volume. Then comes second disc Sexytime, which presents a sparkling selection from the rarely-documented genre of smooth 80s soul. The sort of stuff [don’t laugh] which Tony Blackburn used to play on his Radio London morning show, proper sexy soul including such gems as Amii Stewart’s ‘Friends’, Eugene Wilde’s ‘Gotta Get You Home Tonight’ and Loose Ends’ ‘Sweetest Pain’, all flowing beautifully to establish the right low-lit mood. There’s also some Barry White, Marvin, William DeVaughn’s ‘Be Thankful For What You’ve Got’ and Marshall Jefferson’s version of Richard Rogers’ ‘Can’t Stop Lovin’ You’. Of course it could be considered a guilty pleasure but, at the right time, there is no guilt involved at all!
