Frankie Knuckles returns to the spotlight with his new album on his recently launched NOICE! imprint. Prefaced by the sadly overlooked pairing of two quality produced tracks that hopefully will be fully appreciated in time; “The Whistle Song Revisited” and the Nicki Richards-sung piano-driven “Gimme Gimme (Disco Shimmy)”. The latest single (“Because Of Your Love”) finds the proclaimed Godfather of House reunited with long-time friend, Jamie Principle (how can we forget “Your Love”?), on a number that, as you’d expect, is every bit as soulful and melodic, with some wonderful vocal interplay from Principle. As the name hints, this collection is basically a re-tooling of past releases inspired by Imagination’s “Night Dubbing” (a stripped down re-cut of the group’s “In the Heat of the Night” opus from the early-‘80s). Created with DJs in mind and adhering to the less-is-more adage, this fulfills its mandate with ease with guest contribution from the likes of Blaze, Shapeshifters, Quentin Harris, Groove Junkies, Cleptomaniacs and Eric Kupper making this a must-hear collection.
