For 13 years, Compost has planted its voluminous buttocks astride electronic dance music and fertilised a constant stream of unearthly musical delights. Here, they’re celebrating 250 releases and do so in fine style with highlights of the past year. It starts with the lustrous techno-soul of Carl Craig’s mix of Beanfield’s ‘Tides’ and doesn’t look back, highlights including Alif Tree’s ‘Forgotten Places’, Todd Terje’s remix of Feleix Laband’s ‘Whistling In Tongues’ and King Britt’s dreamy Nova Dream Sequence project. A bonus is the taster of Ben Mono’s upcoming album, ‘Jesus Was A B-Boy’, with its Gemini vocal and weird P-Funk feel. Then there’s the deep, early 90s Nu Groove-recalling ‘Owlflight’ from Shahrokh Soundofk… I could go on. This is a luxurious and innovative label which shows no sign of going the way of so many others – down the pan. Instead the Compost seems to be working with sonic growth in abundance! No shit.
