After their earth-shattering entry in 1992 with Acperience 1, Germany’s Oliver Bondzio and Ramon Zenker became revered for ferociously funky sonic assaults which thrust the Roland TB-303 bass synthesiser to the fore with often devastating consequences. Strictly analogue, they have never made any secret of their love for the original acid house sound which exploded out of Chicago in 1987. Now, almost ridiculing the soul-sucking over-digitalisation of dance music, they present two CDs which gloriously celebrate the music’s roots and spirit rather than showing off the latest digital flatulence. It’s a brilliant journey told by loving tour guides, the first CD kicking off in electro mode with Grumptronix and Andrea Parker’S ‘The Swamp’ before juddering into house with Rico Casazza’s ‘Low Tech Predator’ heralds two Chicago classics in Sterling Void’s ‘Do You Wanna Dance’ and the Nightwriters’ outrageously-emotional anthem ‘Let the Music [Use You]’. From here the peak never drops with monsters like Jared Wilson’s 303-detonating ‘Drug Related Stories’ and names including Joris Voorn, Neuropolitique, Alter Ego, Robert Hood and Hardfloor themselves [trailering their long-awaited new album with the trademark 303 foragings of ‘The Trill Acid Theme’] joining lesser-known artists. A lot of record shop trips, vinyl and passion went into this project and it’s spectacular.
