Late Night Tales – Franz Ferdinand – (Late Night Tales)

Another brilliant release in the series this time sees Indie-Rockers with a Dance twist select a faultless compilation of classic’s and things that will love to hear new. It’s always intriguing to hear what influences a Band and this one take their cues from a diverse selection such as Can, Ian Dury, Zapp, and Lee “Scratch” Perry. Paul McCartney & Wings even pop up with, ‘Nineteen Hundred & Eighty Five’ plus there is of course plenty of rocky numbers to keep the faithful happy including a great cover of Neil Young’s ‘Old Man’ by Justus Köhncke. However, opening the show is Franz Ferdinand’s own exclusive cover version of the collectible ‘Leaving My Old Life Behind’, originally performed by Jonathan Halper on the cult Kenneth Anger movie Puce Moment. But where would Late Night Tales be without concluding with a story, this time via Franz frontman Alex Kapranos himself with the self-penned ‘Defibrillator’.
