Life without one of the worlds truly great singers would have been a very dull world indeed. A point proved by the release of this most welcome compilation of all of Loleatta Holloway’s Salsoul recordings. Unquestionably the strength of her voice lies in the fact that she hits notes and expresses emotions that others could only dream of. Listen to the sheer intensity of Disco classic ‘Hit and Run’ or the lush delivery on Salsoul Orchestra’s ‘Runaway’ and you’ll discover a range and depth of feeling thats’ rarely been surpassed. That is of course not forgetting all the great songwriters, musicians and producers of that era either. People like Alan Felder, Norman Harris, and Ron Tyson who were the labels in-house writers, and producers of the stature of Bunny Sigler and Tom Moulton. Makes you realise just how wonderful songs, and music, can be.
