SECRET LOVE 2
ANOTHER VIEW ON FOLK
SONAR KOLLEKTIV

Mention the words ‘folk’ in a conversation, and there’s a distinct possibility that the listener will develop a glazed expression, make their excuses and spend the rest of the evening studiously avoiding you.  But folk’s not all about comfortable slacks and games of skittles, and recently, various record labels have been putting in the hours to prove that folk is more than just a four letter word.  Sonar Kollectiv’s Secret Love 2 goes one step further by proving that it’s about music, rather than restrictive pigeon holes.  Freeform Five, Daft Punk, Brooks, & Fat Freddy’s Drop demonstrate an ear for armchair dancing, alongside some wonderful moments from artists like Psapp, Thief (a stunning song exclusive to this compilation) amd Roger Robinson.  True, it’s unlikely you’ll be breaking into a sweat on the dancefloor, but once the lights come up and it’s time to go home, these are great sounds, unfettered by the narrow bandwidth of labels.  A serious winter’s treat.
