This double set looks at 25 years of homegrown M.C. culture, straddling dancehall, hiphop, jungle, grime and garage, witnessing the Jamaican influence and patois gradually morphing into the UK accent as buzz-words change with musical styles. Early 80s dancehall is represented by names like Papa Levi, Tippa Irie and Smiley Culture, hiphop by London Posse and Roots Manuva and that volcanic mutant called jungle gets narrated by Tenor Fly, Navigator and General Levy. Current grime and dubstep is covered by names like Warrior Queen, Stush and Riko Dan. Despite the endless need to label things, several factors remain constant: bass and the man with the voice.
