It’s difficult to put a finger on it, but something about Anjunabeats compilations lifts them well above your average trance mix. With so many ‘deep trance’ sets available, it takes a consistently high quality set to bear recommendation, but both these ones do so naturally and easily. James Grant finds his form early on, with mellow tracks in Vincenzo & Aram’s ‘Let Go’ and his ‘Living’ collaboration with Andrew Bayer, both keeping reassuringly firm beats. Tom Middleton’s ‘WYV AUW CHU’ is also a heady number. Jody Wisternoff goes for a quite deep and easily melodic selection early on, but broadens out into an intriguing mix of styles that borders on breaks and garage, with some of the rolling bass bringing back memories of Way Out West productions, especially his remix of Skanna’s ‘This Way’. Quality stuff once again from Grant’s own label.
