It’s quite a shock to discover the sheer amount of energy that courses through Danny Tenaglia’s new mix album, his first for six years. Right from the start the music never hangs about, pushing on through Reboot’s superb ‘Banging Ear Drum’, a great choice early on. The rolling beats and lean bass sounds speak of a DJ going back to the first principles of rhythm, with a tendency to lean more heavily on percussive, tribal house and techno. It works really well, especially as the first mix can pretty much run without a break into the second, picking up a groove straight away and running with it. By this time the music has leanings towards disco but with a couple of impressive sweeping backgrounds, Tenaglia using all his experience to know when to pull back a bit and when to push on. As a result this Balanced double ranks up there with his best compilations, showing off his versatility and keen instinct. An illustrious quarter-century for sure!
