Amidst the ever-growing mountain of mix albums, this one stands out like a horse’s erection in a potato field. Over two hours of music over two CDs by two producers showcasing two labels. Pablo Bolivar with Dpress Industries and 2 Rare People for Blackout’77. Both very different but cooking up something special with pure quality in common. Pablo made his name on the Regular label, releasing the acclaimed Anjanas album and recently looming on Dpress with the ‘Motor City Transmissions’ single, which shows his understanding and killer translation of the classic Detroit sound. His Deep Resolution mix is a lush weave of textures, melodies and insidiously throbbing grooves whipped from the recent Dpress Industries catalogue featuring names including Soultek, Djinxx, Brunetto and Tony Blunt. Its euphoric flow is indeed something to revel in but there are sonic explorations which brilliantly homage the Detroit tradition. 2 Rare People are at the forefront of the French techno scene. Here, Ivan Serra beefs up acid, Moroder and deep techno with floor demolition in mind, working in names like Jose Rodriguez, Undo & Vicknoise and Nicholas Wood [whose ‘Insomnie’ is a masterblast of subterranean bass action]. The three 2RP tracks are fearsome, peaking with the 303-stoked ‘9 Acid’. A right pair of beauties.
