No introduction needed here – an incredible 51 tracks crammed into a package that most self respecting soul fans will not need, as they’ll have the tracks already, but one which represents a really good way in for the more casual enthusiast. Big tunes abound – Arthur Conley, Eddie Floyd, Isaac Hayes, Jean Knight – and that’s only in the first twenty minutes! Otis Redding gets good coverage, and his version of ‘Respect’ is a belter, while group joy comes from The Dramatics, The Bar-Kays and the Staple Singers. Hugely enjoyable and inspiring.
