Various Artists – Collection Of Retrospective – (Loose Records)
DMC World Magazine
Rino Cerrone and Mario Manganelli’s Loose Records bring us a double disc show of goodies from the Loose label, now an established techno imprint that has released half a dozen EPs this summer alone. Here, then, are 18 tracks in unmixed form that show just how dark and dirty the label’s music can get, whether it’s Nhb and Minicoolboyz in the floor filler ‘Acrylic’, or Tom Hades’ ‘You And I’, which carries impressive weight. There is some pretty minimal stuff here but it always does the job, with bass lines that operate below floor level and deep but energetic beats that move at a fair old lick, best illustrated on the likes of La Rocca’s ‘Parode Saraceni, Dema’ or Flavio Diaz’s ‘Taipan’. A powerful set of tracks to boost the arsenal of any self-respecting lover of harder techno!
