Every years the world waits with baited trousers for Sven Vath’s Sound Of The Season reflection on Cocoon’s summer but before that comes the letter compilation which presents the club’s current faves in a limited box of six coloured vinyls or this CD, like a declaration of intent for the upcoming celebration. The dozen outings presented here are startling in their depth, diversity and present as exciting a picture of the current state of the techno union as you’re likely to get. Names include the ubiquitous Cassy, Joris Voorn, Oliver Ho, Simon Baker [outstanding with the classic techno throb-up of ‘U’ complete with wildebeest flatulence], Tolga Fidan, Gui Borratto, Efdemin, Mark August and Matt Star. Yes, most of these names will most likely have affected your legs and brain so that a treat’s in store goes without saying but little can prepare for the melon-blowing carnage of Dubfire taking on Oliver Huntemann on ‘Diablo’ or even Sven himself hitching up with Roman Flugel for the brilliantly-executed controlled explosion of ‘Trashdance’. Time and time again, Sven demonstrates why he’s techno’s greatest spirit without batting a mascara’d eyelash but he’s really pulled one out this here.
