Another of Ace Records’ valuable history lessons, a funk anthology that finds Dave Hamilton delving deep into his attic for some fascinating examples of late 1960s and early 1970s Detroit go-getter. If you want to know more about the musical legacy of the likes of Amp Fiddler this is definitely the place to look. The athletic bass of Billy Garner’s ‘You’re Wasting My Time’ or the pure soul of Bobby Dee’s ‘Sweet Thing’ are just two highlights of the twenty, and in truth there’s hardly a dud among the rare grooves. Detroit some thirty five years ago – it sure was a funky place tobe.
