It’s uncanny how Dessous’ best kept secrets turn out to be as good as they are, and this selection from label head Steve Bug, backed with a mix by partner in crime Phonique, shows just how high the standard remains at the Hamburg label. Vincenzo’s ‘106 Downtown’ works a treat to kick off Bug’s selection, which includes some fine new material from Andrade, Echonomist and Bug – his ‘Do It Right’ the pick of a selection that doesn’t carry any filler. Phonique’s mix brings together a second set of rarities, pacing itself nicely as Tigerskin’s ‘Matters of the Heart’ casting its spell early on, before warming up to solid gems from Vincenzo in ‘The Backyard’, a collaboration with Aram, and the Jimpster remix of ‘Seduction’. Goldwill’s ‘Nachtzug’ provides the nagging, catchy conclusion to a set of smoky grooves from the intersection of house and techno – perfect for furthering the Dessous reputation for quality.
