Portuguese label Discotexas has been up and running for six years now, and this warm hearted compilation brings together their successful fusion of disco and house styles. One of the highlights is undoubtedly Kamp!’s wistful ‘Melt’, heard here in a remix by Zimmer, while the Mirror People’s remix of Jessie Oliver’s ‘Oceans’ is a great hot weather number – as is Zimmer’s ‘Slave To Your Heart’ in a classy, substantial Mercury remix. The bubblegum pop of Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver’s ‘Cul De Sac’ works pretty well too, as does the upfront piano assigned to the Xinobi remix of Justin Faust’s ‘Space Rhumba’ and the call to arms of the RAC remix of ‘To Be Clear’ by Moullinex. There is a strong retro element to the Discotexas sound, and though not all of the riffs are instantly memorable there is plenty enough to go round, with plenty of good feelings to be had.
