This proves to be an entertaining strut through the late 1970s in the unlikely form of German disco, funk and even Philly soul, topped off by informative and sometimes funny notes from the compiler Stefan Kassel. Highlights include a Giorgio Moroder special, Munich Machine’s ‘Get On The Funk Train’, the anthemic ‘Love In A Sleeper’ from Silver Convention, and a good, slightly slower groove in Veronika Fischer’s ‘Philodendron’. Throughout it’s interesting to note a slightly robotic take on the form – and though these Germans are never less than funky, it’s possible to glimpse Kraftwerk just getting into gear.
