Needwant’s love affair with disco reaches a ninth volume…and while it should be pointed out the series has kept a consistently high standard throughout, this one is definitely one of their best so far. Beginning with a brief homage to Studio 54 night The Gallery, it opens out into a great selection of good vibes and warm feelings that reflect some excellent modern takes on disco. The cool piano-led ‘Native Riddim’ by COEO talks of musical references in a great spoken word passage, while the dreamy ‘Apolune’ from Jesper Ryom is another mid-set highlight. Mixes of Boxed In (by Joshua James), New Order (by Tom Trago) and Ashworth (excellence from Kris Davis & Yost) complete a highly desirable package, bringing a promise of summer warmth.
