Until now Belgium’s Hi-Phen label was relatively unknown, but this new collection, subtitled ‘A crash course in dance sequences’, is set to redress the balance. Mixed by label head Mugwump, it goes straight into electro-house riffing, with funky basslines, phat house beats and quirky samples that keep the music bouncing. Brett Johnson, Mugwump himself and Silent Partners provide storming tracks, and Lindstrom’s ‘I Feel Space’ is an intriguing oddity towards the close. A superbly twisted mix, from a label that’s set for very big things!
