From the left or the right side? Straight ahead or upside down? These are the questions being asked by Sonar Kollektiv as we try to work out just who is responsible for this album. It’s Jazzanova for sure – but through the eyes of others, who take their tunes as a start point for a really strong remix compilation. Henrik Schwarz is especially effective in his take on ‘Let Me Show Ya’, while the strong house quotient is reinforced by Ame (‘Glow And Glare’) and Motor City Drum Ensemble (‘Look What You’re Doin’ To Me’). Two previously unreleased versions of ‘I Can See’, featuring Ben Westbeech, are worth flagging up – one from Soldiers Of House (who won a Jazzanova remix competition back in 2009), the other from Midnight Marauders. Both intersect musical forms with the same flair as their subjects, and put the lid on a compilation that marks a welcome return to the marketplace for Sonar Kollektiv – which of course is Jazzanova’s label.
