KINGS OF TECHNO
BBE & RAPSTER

What we’ve got here is two CD’s, mixed by two of the world’s most inspired leading authorities on techno. First up is France’s top export Laurent Garnier, who gives us a mind expanding lesson on the ‘History Of Detroit’. Highlights include psychedelic blaxploitation from Hitsville, in the shape of The Temptations with ‘Plastic Man’, hop downtown to Atlantic where you’ll find the queen of soul Aretha Franklin performing ‘Rock Steady’, head out to a club for a spot of disco with Hamilton Bohannon’s ‘Lets Start To Dance’, or you can get fucked up on garage with The Stooges classic ‘No Fun’. However you look at it Detroit is steeped in history, and that’s without mentioning today’s featured artists which includes Adult, Jeff Mills, Underground Resistance and Carl Craig. Talking of which brings us on to CD2, ‘Influences & Developments’, put together by Mr Desire Carl Craig, taking in a lot of late 70’s and 80’s European electro disco pop. Those with lots of make up that pout a lot include Visage, Yellow Magic Orchestra, The Flying Lizards, Kano, & Alexander Robotnik. Whilst Nitzer Ebb get a tad industrial with their Balearic anthem ‘Join In The Chant’, and Choice take us to the dizzy heights of atmospheric 303 infused techno at its best with ‘Acid Eiffel’. This is money well spent, ‘Kings Of Techno’ has got to be one of the compilation albums of the year.
