Mixmag Presents Elektro Diskow

The very best compilations expose gaps in the catalogue that you didn’t know existed – and ‘Elektro Diskow’, a logical collaboration between EMI and Mixmag, does just that. Its flagship is the fantastic Telex track ‘Mosko Diskow’, a classic from 1979 just getting the recognition it deserves. OK, so it might sound a bit like an ice cream van on a railway track, but that’s a complement – it’s a brilliant set of sounds, a catchy couple of riffs and a feel good disposition that sets you up for two CDs of early electronic wonderment. Welcome inclusions abound, but Nitzer Ebb, Rheingold, Devo and Silicon Teens are all names that might well bring back an electric memory or two. Meanwhile more mainstream inclusions from the likes of Yazoo (‘Situation’), OMD (‘Tesla Girls’) and the League Unlimited Orchestra (‘Things That Dreams Are Made Of’) mean this is a double compilation that gets the balance just right. A hugely entertaining history lesson.
