A surprise perhaps that Four:Twenty haven’t chosen Loco Dice to mix their first compilation, but in James Mowbray they’ve uncovered a new and original talent. With a tracklist that’s pretty much exclusively label-based, the set begins with uneasy electronica from Martin Buttrich and Phonique before beginning to flex its muscles with the subterranean bass of Adultnapper. The great thing about Mowbray’s mixing though is the way he goes off from the beaten track, well structured musically yet refusing to conform to type, and in this he finds help from Jesse Rose, TG, Drama Society and 2 Dawgs. Definitely one to watch, and a fine start to Four:Twenty’s long playing discography.
