Various Artists – The Remixes Vol. 1 – (Jeudi Records)

Jeudi knows a thing or two about how to cook up dance floor grooves that really lock in the crowd, and so for their next trick they invite some big names to remix some of their biggest tracks. Those names include Maxxi Soundsystem, MANIK and Quina as well as Camea and the results are truly compelling.

Maxxi Soundsystem goes first and is someone known for his ability to craft a club slaying baseline. He has done so on labels like Hypercolour before now, and with this remix he does so once again, as well as laying in some frazzled texture and tooting chords. MANIK is a deep house man from labels like Poker Flat and Ovum and here he goes deep once more, with a subdued but seductive take on Cheap Picasso’s Don’t Play Around. Camea is a dark mistress who favours stripped back techno and minimal and that shows in her take on Tow The Line. Lastly, Quina is a name you are likely to hear a lot more from and this remix is a great one full of serenity, melancholic emotions and late night mystery. Overall this is another fine EP from Jeudi.
