Timo Maas is a hugely experienced compilation maker, and it’s worth considering that he’s been in that particular game for fifteen years now. In that time his style has changed quite a bit, and is now darker and more rounded – which actually means he plays the long game a lot more effectively than before. Here he begins with the wonderful ‘Dreams Don’t Turn To Dust’, an Eric Volta track that is both deep and a little acidic, setting the mood beautifully for a mix that simmers in a deep but deliciously dark state of mind. Gradually Timo turns the screw until Chris Carrier’s ‘Wicked Night’ shimmers and sparkles in the ears, setting us up beautifully for two really atmospheric closing tracks – the Timo Maas-Santos collaboration ‘Z Panorama’ and the Villanova remix of Agoria’s ‘For One Hour’, both widescreen moments that bring the best of deep techno and tougher house together. Well worth an hour and a half of your time, preferably late at night!
