To mark their 50th release, the Visionquest label has assembled a highly desirable compilation to mark their achievements to date – but also to make it clear there are likely to be many more. Two CDs give us the chance to appreciate once again the deadpan electro of Ewan Pearson’s remix of Footprintz’ ‘Utopia’, or the quite sinister vocal ‘working like we’re making kids’ that makes Lee Curtiss’ ‘Body Twitch’ so distinctive. That’s before Maceo Plex’s ‘Fallin’’, one of the label’s best tunes to date, and Eric Volta & Sebastian Voigt feat. Forrest in ‘Words & Chance’, which is both warm and cool at the same time if that makes any sense! The second CD spreads its wings further, taking in the slightly weird but compelling harmonies of Dinky’s ‘Blind’, heard here in a Prins Thomas remix, the cool and robotic ‘Forest Fires’ from My Favourite Robot and the funkier Chaim track ‘Underwater’. Finally the third disc, described as ‘a perfect journey deep into the Visionquest world’ is mixed by DJ Three – and it delivers energy and originality from the likes of Konrad Black, Wareika, Rework, Quilla and Riccardo Rizza. A landmark release that delivers just what these things should – quality in spades.
