Various Artists – Vitalik A Retrospective Of One – (Vitalik)
DMC World Magazine
Another label putting down a marker, Vitalik are celebrating reaching 25 releases with a compilation that does a great job of showcasing their talents. The selection is a deep, nocturnal affair, but it always keeps an edge that brings the music out into the foreground. That means in remixes like Gerd’s, for Jamie Lloyd’s ‘Last Drive’, that we get a really vivid picture of the city through spaced out synths, warm bass and tough house beats. Meanwhile Agnès kicks off with a mellow but essentially happy vibe in ‘Silence & Snow’, Such A Saint is nicely spaced out with ‘St. System’, in remix form, but pride of place really goes to Soulade’s ‘Fora Da Chuva’, a brilliant piece of work with fat bass, disembodied vocal samples and a shimmering riff that floats in half way through. Add Mark Henning, Appleblim and Hugo Barritt and you have a consistently inspiring collection of house and techno for those who like their music done deep.
