After eight releases the label has decided to collate twelve brand new tracks, from friends and accomplices, to bond together for this unmixed compilation. Typically focusing on American influences, which is where House came from after all, the collection are of course low-slung, heavy grooves that shake bass bins and booty alike (if you possess one). Beginning with Adrian & Sake’s pumping, ‘Midnight Stagger’ and its testament of rough beats and bass this very much typifies what comes next. Which, ranges from the Garage (as in USA) sounds of New Jack City ‘Feeling You Girl’ to Ejeca’s unrelenting ‘Bamp’, through to the Acid tones of XXXY ‘TPW’, and Citizen’s uplifting – despite the title – ‘Jaded’. All in all, Volume 1 is a thoroughly excellent journey to the electronic heart of House Music, acknowledging its past, but pressing forward on the future button.
