The third in Sonar Kollektiv’s illuminating Broad Casting series, this again introduces the listener to new sounds by way of the talented Karen P. It’s quite mellow in its approach, ideal for a summer night, and is bookended by collaborations between the DJ and Si Begg. In truth there’s not a dud track as the mix goes along its fascinating path of electronic takes on folk, funk and singer-songwriting – without any pretence of course. Woon gathers together some gorgeous harmonies in the course of ‘Robots’, while Tunng’s remix of Viva Voce’s ‘Wrecking Ball’ and Black Spade’s vocal on Skymark’s ‘Space And Time’ are two of many deserving mentions. Add Jimi Tenor, Stereotyp, Owusu & Hannibal and Damon Aaron and you have a formidable compilation, every bit as good as the previous Jazzanova and Dirk Rumpff incarnations.
