Nick Warren is a real stalwart of the Global Underground movement, and this is his eighth contribution to their mixed compilation output. It’s one of his best, too – in typical style he starts with a weightless opening that gradually gathers pace and strength until the heady rush of Paul Thomas & Funkagenda’s ‘Gornal’ and the Deep South remix of John Dahlback’s ‘Pyramid’. Even better is Holmtik’s ‘That Piano Track’, which goes into a gorgeous, fuzzy breakdown , before the mix drives through to the end. The second mix has some big names and lives up to its billing, with Darren Emerson thru Magick Johnson, Laurent Garnier, Dubfire and Evil Nine. Two outstanding mixes, with the first probably the equal of anything Warren’s ever committed to disc – and a sign that GU are still fighting fit.
