Horse Meat Disco II
Strut

Last year’s selection of obscure disco nuggets rocking the dancefloor at South London’s wildly successful and long-running Horse Meat Disco went down so well that the DJ squad of James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Severino and Luke Howard have returned to mix up a tasty second volume [also released unmixed on double vinyl]. Rarely has the sheer, unbridled joy of this musical style, which goes into areas of party ignition few others dare, been so beautifully excavated, selected and woven, their passion utterly contagious. Highlights include Tara Butler’s breathy exhortations over Electra’s hijacking of Frankie Knuckles’ ‘Your Love’ bassline on ‘Feels Good [Carrots And Beets]’; Lourett Russell Grant’s 1979 anthem ‘Hot To Trot’ with its steamy moans, slamming tribal percussion workout and galloping horse hooves; H.M.D.’s incendiary edit of Nightfall’s ‘Nightime Boogie’; Scherrie Payne pumping up 10cc’s ‘I’m Not In Love’ and glittering outings from an aggressive Stephanie Mills, exotic El Coco and First Love’s ‘Don’t Say Goodnight’ evoking the elegant wonder of Chic: sexy, groovy, often high camp and paving the way fabulously for the club’s summer festival invasions. Hung like a horse with glitter ball gonads.
