A celebration of the UK’s independent music labels, this is one of those compilations you can roll out when you have friends round, and invite them to guess the singer or the song. This is because the first CD is a compilation of curious cover versions, some of them well chosen – British Sea Power’s ‘Tug Boat’ and the Infadels’ ‘Steady As She Goes’ especially – and some of them plainly bizarre, as in Devendra Banhart’s ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’. The second CD is a set of recommendations, and here it’s Little Dragon, Goose, A Human and The Tenderfoot that shine. An interesting concept – and a conversation starter.
