Proof that the old ones are the best comes this week from Italy’s IRMA label, who’ve served up two CDs of early house music for our delectation. Joey Negro, not surprisingly, has something frisky to say with his remix of Nikita Warren’s ‘I Need You’, while it’s piano aplenty for Soft House Company’s uplifting ‘What You Need’. Elsewhere this fine compilation puts a smile on the face with Don Carlos’ ‘Alone’, Pasta Boys’ ‘Back & Forth’ (the Ragu mix, naturally) and, on CD2, excellent stuff from Jestofunk, LTJ Sound Machine and Outdance. A not so guilty pleasure from start to finish – two hours of pure joy, in fact.
