‘Masterpiece’ is an occasional series, but to my mind it is one of the best things Ministry have put together, full of insight and more than the odd surprise. You might expect a 3CD collaboration of Fabio & Grooverider to go heavy on the drum ‘n’ bass, but in the event only the third mix does that, bringing together some outstanding cuts from the likes of Doc Scott, Dillinja and Lemon D. CD1 goes for funk and soul, with The O’Jays and The Jacksons leading the way, while CD2 plumps for classic early house and techno, lit up by Soft House Company, the Mighty Dub Katz and Mr Fingers. The only slight qualm is that some of the selections don’t play for as long as you want them to – but that soon dies when the next tune comes up. Well worth seeking out.
