Odyssey Mixed By William Orbit
Ministry Of Sound

With somebody as innovative as William Orbit at the controls of a compilation, you’d be right to assume there are many eye-opening moments within three sets of material. And you’d be right – but there are also some frustrating periods where the feeling is that Orbit is almost giving us too much, as we move quickly from one style to another. CD2 falls into that category for sure, integrating softer house with funk and some ambience, but not quite sure which direction to go in at the end – which may be down to the fact that it isn’t mixed. CD3 is more assured in that aim, the only one of the three to be mixed, and it takes us straight to the scene of the party with uplifting house such as the Freemasons’ ‘When You Touch Me’. Most satisfying of the three, perhaps inevitably, is the chill out mix, where Orbit delights the ears with Little Dragon, Jon Hopkins, Dusted and his own productions. It’s worth getting for this one alone.
