Beyond the obvious statement in the title, the only other thing you really need to know is that renowned record dealer Jazzman Gerald and serious funk collector Quantic (of Quantic Soul Orchestra) are not people to make glib statements. When they say it, they mean it. If you had the time and energy, and could find someone willing to part with any of the original copies of the records contained herein, you’d need around £15K in your back pocket to secure each and every song on here. Now that’s serious record collecting. You might also like to know that this collection contains some of the meanest, the baddest, the heaviest, the funkiest music in the history of black music. Whether it’s The Latin Breed’s stupidly infectious take on “I Turn You On”, Larry Ellis & The Black Hammer’s “Funky Thing”, or James Polk’s “Just Plain Funk”, this is one amazing compilation. And probably the only funk compilation you actually do need.
