Danny Howells is ideally suited to the Renaissance style of house music, as his sets ease themselves in, gradually taking on more and more as they build through seventy minutes – always logical but never too rigidly structured. So it is here, with a more instrumental first disc complemented by a second that offers more vocals, before spacing out with longer basslines stalking through the texture, pointed towards a breaks-based finish through Howells’ remix of the superb Apparat track ‘Fractales’. This isn’t really about individual tracks, though Howells has carefully re-edited some of the material here, and offers his own ‘Laid Out’ and ‘Shining’. Crucially throughout there’s enough of an edge to keep a casual listener hooked in the groove – and the mixing’s pretty damn good, too.
