It only seems ten minutes since Jazzanova were setting up their own label – as well as keeping things going at Compost – but here it is racking up its two-hundredth release. As an introduction to the Sonar Kollektiv roster it’s a treat, and shows just how far they’ve come. Contrasts range from the sparkling minimalism of Lars Bartkuhn and the deepness of Soulphiction and Roland Appel to the perky ska music of The Black Seeds and Eva Be.Add to that joyous singer-songwriter stuff from Benny Sings, Christian Prommer’s Drumlesson’s ace jazz cover of Daft Punk’s ‘Around The World’ (really!) and Rachel Fraser’s lovely turn on Recloose’s ‘Catch A Leaf’, and you have a perfect stocking filler – which will point you to where to spend that Christmas money!
