With the tracks selected in September or thereabouts, this great value triple pack nonetheless provides a good guide to the state of house off the airwaves at the start of 2009. If I was off to a desert island with one disc I’d make it the second, whose opening quintet is a fine set of tracks from Claude Von Stroke (‘Scarlet McCaw’), Kevin Saunderson, Henrik Schwarz/Ame/Dixon, Deadmau5 and Dubfire. With an illustrious list like that you’d expect the rest of the comp to be overshadowed but that’s not the case either – though CD1 is more overground than you might expect, remixes of Eric Prydz, The Whip and Steve Angello more familiar by now. That said, with a relaxed style policy – techno, minimal and electro are well covered too – and a handsome packaging, this is easily the best of the four ‘Underground’ releases so far.
