The Warp celebrations continue with what the label describe as ‘an eleven track collection of secret treasures rediscovered from the Warp vaults’, pulled out from the box set release marking the 20th birthday celebrations. They’re not wrong, either – from the blissful Boards of Canada track ‘Seven Forty Seven’ through to Broadcast’s beautifully restrained ‘Sixty Forty’, this is a collection that reinforces Warp as one of electronic music’s premier labels. Plaid’s ‘Dett’ offers a surprisingly funky four to the floor round, while Autechre’s ‘Oval Moon’, remixed by IBC, is similarly beat driven and ear-friendly. Clark’s ‘Rattlesnake’ marks him out once again as a sonic producer par excellence, while it’s good to be reminded by Nightmares On Wax of where it all started. A fine introduction for newcomers to the fold – or an essential purchase for Warp completists, of which there are rightly many.
