In Germany, electro’s gone all deep and druggy. Some of it works well but with so many half-baked 12”s cluttering the record shops, you wonder where’s the quality control gone. One of the genre’s better labels Systematic is putting out Abysm’s ‘Future Love’, which boasts one of those synthy Chicken Lips b-line: a useful tool, perfect for warming up (125 BPM). Part of the Fine stable (Tiefschwarz, Mocky etc), Mr Negative have delivered an absolute monster-in-the-making. Whereas the original of ‘Evacuate’ is a dark, sterile proposition, their Ibiza Dawn re-edit is made of far more inspired substance. The result is a bizarre yet winning combination of disorienting bleeps, proggy oomph and cinematic horns – ideal to kick start an energetic set.
