Ian Dury was an amazing wordsmith who happened to drop a song called ‘Sex & Drugs ‘N’ Roll’ 30 years ago which got adopted by lowest common denominator factions who simply took the title as a hedonist’s anthem. The Slyde duo have made some great, multi-genred floor-killers recently, such as ‘Krunk’ and ‘Vibrate To This’, now they’ve bagged the two words from Ian’s classic, fed them into the laptop and made him sound like a chipmunk as vocals shout punkily and dirty Motley Crue riffs grunt. Will probably be air-punchingly huge but I can’t help wondering what the great man would have made of it. Might have laughed his arse off, or just this bloke called Fred round to have a word.
