Despite being highly instrumental in the rise of dance music in the UK, Greg Wilson is still not quite celebrated as the pioneer he truly is. In the eighties the DJ was resident at Wigan’s Pier Casino and The Hacienda, had a much respected show on Manchester’s Piccadilly radio and worked on the seminal Street Sounds comps. Thankfully the people at Tirk have collared him and are about to put out a whole batch of his legendary re-edits. Main attraction on the first sampler 12” is Raw DMX’s ‘Do It To The Funk’ which lays the sublime acappella of Raw Silk’s ‘Do It To The Music’ over DMX Krew’s ‘Who Got The Funk’ (113 BPM).
