This week’s bootleg isn’t the dancefloor bomb you could have expected from an illegal ‘Billie Jean’ re-shuffle. It’s nevertheless a seducing take on the Michael Jackson classic, introducing a completely new electro-y track underneath the familiar vocal (129 BPM with quirky Prelude synths and fat analog b-line). With so many cheap cash-ons doing the rounds it’s easy to dismiss bootlegs as a sterile genre but there’s still something highly exciting in discovering a familiar song reinterpreted by a nobody.
