There isn’t a week without a Justus Köhncke production at the moment, the (long overlooked) German – ex Whirlpool Productions – is keeping well busy. ‘Elan’ is the standout track from his solo LP ‘Doppelleben’, a glamourous robo-disco that lavishly takes you up and up (123 BPM). This is a sensitive man with much beauty inside, you instantly want to be his friend. A co-production with singer/songwriter Andreas Dorau, ‘Strasse Der Bräme’ is a charming slice of lo-fi kraut pop (80 BPM). Köhncke for his own rework switches the vocoder on and elaborates a raw euro-disco interpretation that is plain delicious (picture Kraftwerk vs Moroder on MDMA, 123).
